Ride: Iconic Onscreen Vehicles

by Chad Oppenheim

$65.00

Onscreen entertainment and cool modes of transportation go together like Batman and Robin, like Thelma and Louise, like Captain Kirk and Spock, like Michael Knight and Kitt, like...well, you get the picture. There’s a long tradition of amazing cars, boats, helicopters, planes, trains, spaceships, motorcycles, and submarines motoring their way through our popular entertainment. These vehicles are not your average Honda Civic or 747—they are not about good safety ratings, the latest ergonomic features, high gas mileage, or great warranties. Instead, our favorite onscreen vehicles are about amazing design and, often, incredible features. In many cases, these modes of transportation are characters in their own right, stealing scenes, saving the day/the hero, vanquishing (or helping) the villain (or helping him/her), or offering valuable counsel. At other times, they are extensions of the characters, functioning not merely as transportation but serving double duty as protection or as weapons. Ride is a visual feast of iconic vehicles from movies and television, with each rendered in an original, extremely detailed illustration accompanied by supplemental illustrations of special features and printed in black ink on silver paper. Ride, the second title in Tra Publishing's Design + Film series, is an encyclopedic celebration of the wildly creative vehicular design tradition that is so entrenched onscreen, providing a close and admiring look at the design features and functionality that have for decades made these machines the vehicles of our dreams.
